La Caille

Yesterday I went to La Caille restaurant with my 9th grade French students along with a couple foods and teen living classes. My students are pretty well-behaved, however, I still had this fear that they would get there and tear the place down. We did have a few problems, but overall I think the kids had a good experience.

Here are a few of the unfortunate things that happened. Apparently the teacher in charge of planning everything didn't give the restaurant an accurate count of people planning on coming, so they didn't have enough room for us. They had to squeeze people on already full tables and squish in one more table in the corner. The room was already kind of small, and the acoustics caused a lot of echoing, so we sounded a lot louder than we really were. They waitresses had to keep the door shut so that other customers wouldn't be disturbed. We had a table of students who had to be sent back to the bus during the meal because they played a practical joke on the neighboring table while they were in the restroom (they poured salt in everyone's glasses) and lied to us teachers about. And to top it all off, the women's restroom toilets overflowed (I hope hope hope that wasn't from my kids! There was another school there too!).

On the good side, the kids looked so nice! Some of the girls went way out and wore very fancy dresses. They had a lot of fun taking pictures outside of La Caille with all the peacocks and pretty landscaping. They had the opportunity to try escargot (I passed this time since I've already had it before). The food was great and the ambiance was perfect! We're planning on going again next spring; I just hope our students' behavior won't prevent us from returning!
